First off I must say that this was the first RE game I played. I borrowed it from a mate to sample something different on my console and boy did I ever. Almost immediately I was absorbed the sheer atmosphere of the beginning, the tapping of the typewriter as Jill proclaims 'her last resort' is stunning and at the time seamed a breath of fresh air to anything I had ever witnessed on my console. In my opinion the atmosphere is the scariest part of the game, it absorbs you and makes you feel like you are there standing next to Jill.

It forces you to keep playing just to see how the game will develop. Nemesis was probably the first single character from a game or from a film to really frighten me, fuelled by my friends warning to avoid him/it at all costs my adreniline sky rocketed whenever I met him in the game. However I thought he got less scary as he got less human throughout the game. This was the first game that gave me a real feeling of satisfaction once I had completed it and it was this that made me realise that survival horror was my thing. Despite being brilliant like anything this game isnt perfect.

It wasnt until I had played all of the other RE games that I realised how easy this one was. If Nemesis doesnt get you nothing will and unlike the other games ammo is plentiful as are herbs and aid bottles. This perhaps makes it less scary because there is nothing worse than feeling helpless. This game also seemed shorter than the others but to be honest when you enjoy something so much it is always going to end to soon no matter how long it is.
